Just Me and My Dragon

I vaguely noticed the laughter turn into screams of terror, when suddenly my captor dropped me and I feel to my knees. The mob churned around me, running in fear. I fell against the mast as the deck suddenly cleared around me; a great wind knocked the men about. I looked up to see a blazing dragon hovering over me. I screamed breathlessly when the dragon gently grasped me in his claws and pulled me into the air.

The burning ship was a clear beacon in the dark night. The men’s screams and shouts echoed across the water, chilling me to the bone. I was shivering and the dragon noticed. His grip tightened as we began to quickly lose altitude. We crashed into the sea; the salt water slapped painfully against us. My head became increasingly cloudy as I was dragged through the surf, the dragon pulling me in his wake.

Suddenly, I felt rocks scraping against my legs and I collapsed on the beach. The dragon blew out a flame, briefly lighting the area and revealing some driftwood. He quickly started a fire which gave off a strange blue-green light. The dragon helped me up, tugging gently with his talons. As the air swirled around me, a rushing sensation filled my head. The world tilted and turned dark.

I woke enveloped in warmth. A bright amber wall greeted me. It took me a few seconds to realize that I was surrounded by scales. They were surprising soft to the touch. When he felt me stir, the dragon lifted his wing, letting sunlight shine through. He must have curled around me to keep me warm and protected last night. I carefully stood up, shaky from the ordeal of the last few days.

“Agon?”

The question hung in the air for a moment before the dragon gracefully nodded his head. I stumbled backwards. Agon kept me from falling with his tail.

“I never knew that you would like this,” I broke off. I was entranced by him. His scales glowed magnificently in the sun-light, shining an orange-gold. He was much larger than I had imagined, easily double his human height.

He dropped his head to my outstretched hand, letting me touch him. I could see now why the people of the Dragon Isles could confuse the dragons for deities. In the Dragonrealms, I never saw them for what they truly were, pieces of glorious art created by nature to serve as guardians to protect the weak.

“You’re beautiful,” I said softly.

He blinked his eyes, so like his human ones. He pulled me against him as he began to glow. He transformed back to his human form and as soon as he could he wrapped his arms around me and held me tight.

“Thank you for saving me,” I said.

“I had to,” he said, his breath moving my hair. “I certainly couldn’t leave you.”

I rested my head against his chest and for the first time in a long while, I felt safe. The world collapsed to this one moment, just me in his arms. Just me and my dragon.

I just realized that I never posted the finished version of that sketch from before.

Rei and Agon are two of my main characters from my novel Fugitive.

Rei and Agon - Sketch

A sketch that I definitely plan on finishing.  Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Character Designs!

So I was messing around fleshing out character designs for my current book series Finding My voice and this was the result!

For those who have a little bit of trouble reading my various handwritten names:
Top row: Saria, Rei, and Ari
Bottom row: Armont, Agon, and Rikano

The first book of the series is told from Saria's point of view.

The second book of the series is told from Rei's point of view.

Ari, short for "Arianstellar", is an Aquaid, or my equivalent of a mermaid.

Agon is a dragon in human form

Saria's hair ended up being too red with the scan, but since I never transferred my photoshop over, I'm kind of stuck with it.  You can see the correct colors a little better here:

I'll be updating my book list soon, so keep an eye out!

New in Writing!

Writing always provides an interesting sort of release for me.  It's not that I need an escape from reality, but rather it's something that makes me consistently happy.

Lately my time has been pretty much consumed by two separate projects: editing and writing. Editing Ambassador and writing Fugitive.  If neither of these sound familiar, Ambassador is my first "real" novel I finished and Fugitive is its sequel.  There was a rather poor first novel that I gave up about half-way through when I realized just how horrible it was so that's why Ambassador is my first "real" novel.

This second book has been a completely different experience for me.  It is almost as if since I already know that I could write a novel this one has been coming out much faster and much easier than the first one.  It has been just over a month since I first started and I'm just short of the halfway point.  For comparison's sake it took me about two and a half years to write my first book.

I've also been reading a lot, for both research and entertainment.  I have a little project in regards to this here: Books of 2012!  I'm actually in the process of reviewing the next set of books so you can look for an update there fairly soon.

My question for you my readers, is there anything else that you would like to learn about me?  Can be anything from personal history to writing techniques.  Until next time!

Too Late to Save You...

I quietly closed the door behind me with a sigh. The room was oddly quiet, even while filled with people. I quickly got lost in the crowd; even these guards could have been smart enough to figure out the route of my escape.

I didn't belong here. My mere presence ruined the atmosphere. The mourners gathered around the tombstones of their loved ones, and yet I had no one. But then there was one tombstone that was left alone - perhaps we could give each other solace. As I stepped forward, the lines of the stone grew increasingly familiar. I've been here before.

I let my hands skim over the engraved name. It didn't sound familiar and yet at my touch visions of the man buried here flashed across my mind. The man that I've been searching for all these years. This grave belonged to my only connection to my past. Even now I was two late to save you. I came all this way searching for you and I lost. Even in my dreams, I always lost.

I turned away as something in me cracked. For the first time in years, a tear trickled its way down my cheek.

A new personal sketch! Obviously it's not finished - but the bones are certainly there [you know that you like block hands!]. I like drawing wavy/curly hair.

If I was to finish it I would fix the anatomy errors and straighten out the steps. And the squiggles are there for a reason - even though she doesn't realize it, she's faintly glowing with magic.

And those are a vase of dead/wilting flowers in front of the gravestone - if you were wondering.

The scene occurs in the middle of one of the many writing projects I'm working on.

Anyways, you kind find more of my most recent sketches here: Deviantart Gallery!
