Sweden - May 20, 2013

I'm glad it seems like you all are doing well. It's been a little interesting here. It's been raining quite a bit and it's been cold so tracting/contacting hasn't necessarily been the most effective this past week. Friday though was beautiful (and I got to spend in a town called Vänersborg which is absolutely gorgeous and right on that gigantic lake in Sweden).

It's been a bit of a crazy week. We had to go down to Göteborg for a Sister missionary training session, we had zone leader consultations and sister exchanges this past week.

As for investigators, we were able to meet again with the lady we tracted into last week, Lena. We were able to teach her in extended detail that God loves her as His daughter and a brief summary of the plan of salvation focusing on the Atonement.

When I was with Syster Jacobs (she's one of the training sisters and we made the interesting connection that she was my American Heritage TA when I was at BYU back in 2009. We apparently graduated within a couple of months of each other in 2011--she was April while I was June. Small world. We contacted two people of the street that our both interested in learning more about the church. Mirko - we hope to be able to have a power-packed spiritual lesson with him to help him understand that he can know that God exists. The other is Lolo who is extremely positive! I've never seen someone so happy to receive a Book of Mormon. We were able to teach her a brief lesson at the bus stop about the Book of Mormon and we're definitely meeting her at least once this week.

We're continuing to work with Christine and her daughter. We had a practice lesson with Christine last week on the restoration and her non-member daughter sat in. We hope to be able to teach her daughter officially.

We met a man named Riaz who is actually an inactive member, but not entirely by choice. Jakobsberg had found his number and their phone and they called him to see who he was. He told them that he's definitely interested with meeting with the missionaries, but that he had moved. So we called him and set up an appointment. We come to find that he was baptized almost two years ago (he even brought a copy of his baptismal program to show us), but that he didn't know how to find our where church was after he moved, so he hasn't been able to come. We gave him the Trollhättan's chapel's address as well as information on how to sign up for Festinord and he's super interested in coming back! We hope to be able to see him next Sunday (he wasn't able to come yesterday because he was sick).

We also visited an lady in the ward named Veri who loves to play the organ and sing. She was so glad that we came by, and we hope to visit her again this week as well.

We've been learning a lot about the Restoration the past week as part of the 12 week program for Sister Land. As we've been studying preach my gospel, one thing that has been standing out for me is the Great Apostasy. We know that the Restoration needed to happen, but the harder question is "why did the Great Apostasy have to occur in the first place?" I can't say that I know all of the answers, but I think the main thing relies on the concept that we have our agency. And because of the choices of those around Christ's death, the Apostasy was the consequence. The fact that it lasted so long probably goes into the idea that the world was simply not prepared for the restoration. One thing that we don't have to worry about is that God is most definitely just and merciful; those that didn't have the chance to learn of His gospel then will still have the same opportunity for the celestial kingdom.

Sister Land

As for scriptures that impacted me this week was 1 Timothy 6:6 which reads "But godliness with contentment is great gain." I've just been thinking about the word contentment--for it isn't a word that you often hear in the scriptures. It's about being happy with what you currently have, while still striving to improve. Being content with where I am currently at, because I know that I'm trying my best and that good things will come.

Love,

Allie
